Goods and Services Tax (GST)

Australia's 10 per cent consumption tax. Every procurement figure includes it.

GST is a 10 per cent tax on most goods and services. It matters in procurement because every threshold in the Commonwealth Procurement Rules and every value published on AusTender is GST inclusive, while pricing schedules are usually written ex GST. A $120,000 ex GST quote is $132,000 including GST and crosses the $125,000 threshold. On a tax invoice the GST is one eleventh of the GST inclusive price. Registration is compulsory once turnover reaches $75,000, or $150,000 for a not for profit.
