Answer

How do I win Australian Government contracts?

Get an ABN, register on AusTender, work out which UNSPSC categories your work sits under, get onto the panels that matter in your market, and respond to the tenders you can actually win rather than all of them.

The path is more repeatable than it looks. Start with the basics: an active ABN, GST registration if your turnover requires it, and a free AusTender account so notices reach you. Then work out which UNSPSC categories the government buys your kind of work under, because that is what everything is indexed on.

Next, do the market research that most suppliers skip. Contract notices on AusTender name the buyer, the supplier, the value and the contract end date for every Commonwealth contract over $10,000 including GST. That tells you who your real competitors are, what agencies actually pay, and when the work you want comes up for recompete.

Then get onto the relevant panels. A large share of Commonwealth spend is competed among standing offer panellists rather than openly advertised, so panel membership is often the difference between eligible and invisible. Panels refresh periodically and a refresh may be your only chance for years.

Finally, qualify honestly before you write. Read the conditions for participation first: they are pass or fail, and a response that misses one is excluded before anyone reads your answers. Then write to the stated evaluation criteria, with evidence, and lodge well before the closing time.
